A very good unlocked phone option

Initially I was a little hesitant about the size of this phone, but since having it for almost a month now, all I have are mostly positive things to say:
  1. 4G LTE speeds -the wireless data connection speeds are good, often faster than my home wifi
  2. Decent processor + Plenty of RAM: so far I have had no performance issues with the phone. Whenever hitting the 'Home' button to exit an app the screen sometimes ghosts for a second, but other than that the response is very snappy. While the processor is not bleeding edge, it definitely does a good job, and playing games is smooth. The 2Gb of RAM is plenty and makes multitasking a breeze without the phone bogging down.
  3. Battery Life: is excellent. I have had the phone last 4 days on a single charge, and that was with checking email, making calls/receiving texts, playing games, and surfing the internet. On average you'll probably get between 2-3 days of use (or at least I do), but I love not having to worry about charging the phone every night.
  4. GPS: works well, and combined with the great battery life means that the phone will survive for even long trips
  5. SD card: memory is expandable
  6. Painless Setup: I use StraightTalk with this phone and the setup process was painless and all of my cellular services have worked flawlessly from day one. I cannot speak for the setup with other companies, but I would imagine it would be similarly easy.
Overall, I am very happy with this phone. Hopefully Huawei will hold to their announcement that they will be releasing Android 5.0 for the Mate 2, so if you really want Lollipop I would wait and see (supposedly the update will be released first half of this year), but for my purposes the phone is great regardless of Huawei's plans for future software updates.

Kicks my iPhone6+ Battery life.Hidden feature you might not know about. Read Review

If you have question about this phone just leave me a comment and I will answer in less than 24hrs as long as I am not very busy. And if you find my review helpful click YES below.

Amazing battery, I did test it watching netflix for 10hrs+ straight with screen not turning off. I started around 8:24am and get back on the phone around 6:37pm, the HAM2 is not even hot not even warm and after all that I still have 23% battery. I am using 64gb Samsung EVO micro SD. On regular everyday use when busy just checking text and email and facebook, I got 5 days of battery life straight without charging. The default mail app sucks but the best email app you can easily get it for free on playstore app name is "BlueMail" and you want to check "Pure Flashlight" this is a widget that you can place on your homescreen and and click it once camera flash will be ON click it the second time it will be OFF, when you install the app you will not see the icon so you need to touch and hold the empty part of your homescreen the choose widget then look for Pure Flashlight and put it in your homescreen and try it out before you say anything :p.

One thing I notice on the camera app when you change the setting on it and shutdown the camera app, it will revert back to the default setting which I hate. Man this phone never lag at all. And I only use Normal mode on the battery on "Power Saving settings" because why would you save battery when you can even empty the battery in a day, and choosing "smart" on the Power Saving I get lag which is very rare so I just keep mine in "Normal".

By they way there is a hidden feature on our Huawei Mate 2 I will link the video below and please if you find my review and video helpful, please click "YES" below. And I have alerts when you comment ask me anything I will answer you as quickly as I can.

The Hauwei Mate 2 is a winner. High quality, works with T-Mobile/AT&T and is unlocked for all other networks.

This has to be one of the best kept secrets in smartphones. The quality of this phone is top tier. The fit and finish is very good and the quality of the materials makes this phone look like it should cost in the $600-$800 range.

It is a big phone so if you want a smaller phone, then get that but don't complain about the size of this one. At 6.1" it is noticeably larger screen-wise than the Samsung Note 3/4 but overall the phone isn't much bigger.

It's 2 gigs of system RAM is more than plenty to run Android. The storage RAM is expandable for no worries about having enough space to store pictures and so on, just remember to set the storage preference to the external SD card.

The CPU is more than up to the task of running Android and the apps you want.Even with an off-line GPS app running, the camera running and email open and so on the phone never slowed down. The OS remained quick and responsive. Hauwei includes it's own interface but it isn't intrusive and actually works quite well. 3rd party launchers can always change things if you want.

That big screen begs for windowing so Hauwei includes WOW or Window on Window. Still, it is a phone not some 17" laptop running Windows so even though the screen is large for a phone at 6.1", it is still 6.1", not 16 or 60.

Hauwei's OS Interface has the Lollipop look to it, like it or hate it. The phone is running Jellybean 4.3 and some people might be put off that it doesn't run Kitkat ior Lollipop. Oh well. I haven't seen such a huge difference in the newer version numbers and in the real world, neither will most people. It can be easy to get all wrapped up in having the latest version of an OS but unless the difference is really significant, it makes little real life difference. Nevertheless, Hauwei has officially announced it will update the Mate 2 to Lollipop this year. Lest you forget, when Lollipop came out it had problems and according to some reports, still does. There is some benefit to not being the guinea pig.

There is nearly zero bloatware on this phone. Anything you don't want to run can either be disabled or prevented from using data or wifi depending on how you want to limit app access to connectivity.

The Screen: What a great display this phone has. While it might not have the pixel density of premium phones it is a phone so you're really not going to notice much difference if any at all. What you will notice is how much easier everything is to see and how much more of it will display. The clarity is very good and the touch is accurate and responsive. Watching videos is so much easier on this phone than anything else. Size does matter and unless you go to a 7" tablet, this is the largest you're going to get with good quality.

The case: The case fits very good and the rear cover has that nice soft touch feel to it. Removing the rear cover reveals the embedded battery and two side by side slots, one for the SIM and the other for the SD memory card. As with most phones, the SIm card is easier to put in than get out so use a piece of tape or a soft eraser to do that. The bezel around the display is thin and that helps keep the phone size very manageable. While the Mate 2 is a large phone it can be handled quite easily by just about anyone except those with the smallest of hands. You can put this phone in your back pocket and it isn't going to fall out. Barely thicker than the Samsung Note3, it is easy to hold. The back case has a nice rounded profile to it so it fits the hand really well. Some phones are flat on the back and they are often difficult to hold even if they are smaller in size. The rounded profile of the case back makes it fit the gap between your hand and the phone nicely and you get a secure grip.

SIM and SD Card Slots: The sim is a micro size, some call it the nano size. Every service provider should be able to provide you with the proper sized SIM. Now to the SD card slot. The specs say the maximum is 32 gigs but I put in a 64 gig card it it works perfectly. All you do if format the card and you have all that space. I bet but can't say for sure, that a 128 gig card would work too.

The Battery: The Mate 2 has a monster battery, it is easily 1/3 greater in capacity than phones close to this size Even the Nexus 6 has a smaller battery despite it being physically larger than the Mate 2. This translates into longer use between charges. For a comparison, I fully charged my Note3 and the Mate2 and unplugged them at the same time. I set the WiFi on, GPS on and then went about using the Mate2 for some web browsing, downloading several larger apps and running chat, sent voice via text, took a few pictures and made 5 calls totaling over an hour. At the end of the day (6pm) the Note 3 had 64% charge remaining, despite not being used nearly as much while the Mate 2 had 72% charge remaining. Had I used the Note3 as much as the Mate 2 the difference would be even more startling. Granted, the Note 3 has a removable battery but swapping batteries still means shutting it down and doing the swap. With the Mate 2, nothing required, just use it knowing you have plenty of battery capacity on hand.

Service availability: I tried the Mate 2 with a pre-paid T-Mobile SIM as well as a Consumer Cellular service and the Mate 2 worked flawlessly. Download speeds in my area are above 20 megs down, more than enough to do anything you need. In both cases, the SIM setup the APN needed so it was a plug and play affair. Just make sure that if you use a post-paid service that they register your IMEI properly or you experience delays but that has nothing to do with the Mate 2, that is the service.

Since Consumer Celluar uses AT&T towers/service, you are covered in the USA. T-Mobile owns Metro PCS so the bases are covered.

The Mate 2 is an LTE phone so you'll get all the speed you can from your service provider. I did not try the Mate 2 out on Verizon but have no reason to believe it won't work on that network as well. You have the ability to choose the type of service in the phone so Verizon should work, the Mate 2 is unlocked.

I am very happy with the Hauwei Mate 2. The quality is right there with the "brand" names and the large screen and super battery make this phone unique.

As I said, buying a large screen phone but needing or wanting something smaller means you should go buy that, not the Mate 2. If you want or need a large display, a battery that has enough capacity to easily get you through 2 days or more depending on use, the Mate 2 is not going to disappoint you. In fact, people with other phones, many costing more than 3 times as much might be envious when you look at a picture or browse the web.
